Johann grew up in Cape Town, South Africa where most of his days were spent surfing at the beach or climbing Table Mountain. As a child Johann loved drawing, building lego, and exploring his natural surroundings.
This curiosity for the world around him would help build his creative eye for fast-paced work in the events and run-and-gun film scene. In 2016, Johann discovered his love for working with cameras when his sister got married and asked him to photograph her wedding. With no previous experience, Johann was quite nervous, as his only experience with photography had been very casual on his cellphone. However it was a huge success, and since that day, Johann knew the only place for him in life was behind a camera.
Having just finished school, and him not knowing where to go in life, this was the perfect opportunity to try something new. So he asked his parents to help buy him a camera, which they did, and shortly after at the start of 2017, he met someone in the events industry who gave him a job. He would then go on to photograph over 300 events, comprising of various brands such as, Guinness World Records, Cotton On, Jameson Irish Whisky, Corona Extra, Vide E Caffe, Heineken, Southafrica.co.za, The Sun MET, ABSIP, Fanta, and many more.
In 2021, Johann won the DV green card lottery, and moved to the United States in March of 2022.
Since then, Johann has been working in the film industry as a Videographer, Camera operator, 1st AC, Media manager, and various other roles. Now Johann is focusing on becoming a Cinematographer in the film industry, as well as rediscovering himself as a full-time photographer.
